School Adventures!

THP offers a variety of in-school workshops, residencies and assemblies for preschool and elementary schools. Each interactive program engages children by utilizing theatre, storytelling, voice, music, movement and/or art. Integrating the arts in education and growing social development skills are primary goals for THP founder and teaching artist, Amy Forbes

Classroom Workshops

Offered for preschool – 5th grade
Designed for one classroom at a time
45-60 Minutes
Flexible scheduling and pricing
- Stand-alone workshops: 1-3 visits; scheduled as needed
- Multiple day residency: 4+ visits; daily, weekly or monthly

Storytelling Workshops

Children’s literature forms the starting point for these storytelling workshops. Amy guides students through the story using text, dialogue, action, songs, creative movement and props to create an interactive experience that brings FUN into literature. She not only explores literacy concepts, with the goal of deeper understanding, but she also guides children to act out scenes in order to kinesthetically explore specific social emotional skills. For older grades, Amy focuses on advanced investigation of story elements and elaboration of the storyline, allowing students to invent dialogue, become characters and develop alternate endings. Multiple day residencies include costumes and scenery.

Creative Arts Workshops

Amy offers arts-integrated workshops and residencies based on a chosen curriculum focus from language arts, science or social studies. She uses dramatic tools such as improvisation, theatre games and role-play, as well as creative movement and visual arts to lead students and teachers to actively and creatively explore curriculum concepts. Through this process, students’ varied learning styles are engaged and their literacy of the concept grows.

Amy’s interactive assemblies involve your students and their storytelling tools, voice, body, imagination and feelings. Equipped with music, backdrops, scenery, props and costumes, Amy leads your students through a chosen story. Children become willing and excited participants as they bring this story to life.
